The Trash Man

My husband is not really into the whole household cleaning and organization thing.  He is amazing in the kitchen and will cook up a great dinner or bake cookies in a heart beat but it can be difficult to get him to straighten up or pick up after himself.  He can be forgetful too.  Sometimes I have to remind him over and over to do certain things before he remembers to do it.  There is one particular thing however that he does unprompted and without any reminders by me.  Rain or shine like nobodies business he is on it when it comes to taking out the trash.  I have never had to remind him about this chore as long as we have lived together.  In fact, I never even specifically asked him to...he just did...like magic.  When our little recycling trash bin just outside the garage door fills up he dumps it.  Come Monday morning as I lay in bed still hitting snooze I can hear the familiar scraping of him wheeling those trash bins out to the curb before he goes to work.   By the time I roll up to the house later that day after work those bins are back inside the fence next to the house right where they belong.  More often then not he forgets to put a trash bag in the can but bless his heart, he will dump the kitchen trash and will even walk it outside to the trash bins if I pull it out and leave it next to the door.  What is it with men and trash? It's just about the manliest household chore around.  I wish cleaning the bathroom or dusting the blinds were considered manly.  I can hear it now.  No honey, you better not be cleaning the bathroom again.  You know that's my job.  Not likely, but the trash is their domain and you would be hard pressed to find a man who does not believe it is his inherent duty to handle it.  And thank goodness because I have so many other things to do and remind him about so I really appreciate that I don't ever have to haul those stinky heavy trash bins to the curb.

When it comes to trash I can sit back, relax and know that it's being taken care of.  Just as soon as I finish cleaning the house.

  1. hahahaha, omg, so funny! seriously though, what is it with men and the trash?! too freaking funny! at our apt hubs used to be the cleaner but now i have basically taken the reigns on that. i guess, the whole owing a home has changed me, haha. but taking the trash out is the one thing i don't ever have to ask him about too! it is crazy. and then on the trash days he always wheels it right to the front of the house for pickup so i never have to deal with it. i wish it was the bathroom too! haha.

  2. That's so funny! My husband is the same way but I never thought about it until now. I don't think I have taken out our trash once in the 3 years we have been married. You're right, must be a guy thing!
You guys make an adorable couple by the way =)

  4. That is Big Man's job too.
He'll help with some household chores but trash is his main job :)

  5. Nice. I actually enjoy cleaning 90% of the time - it's cathartic to me, I dunno why. BUT there are a few things I hands down refuse to do if I don't have to - mainly taking the trash out & matching socks once they're out of the dryer. Not happening if I can help it. LOL

  7. Well, there are a few around that don't take it upon themselves to take the garbage out. It's like pulling teeth to get my husband to do it. But, he cleans the bathroom like a champ. I haven't had to scrub a toilet or a shower for over 5 years now. I'll take the clean bathroom over the garbage any day :)

  8. When my husband and I got married he was shocked that I expected him to throw the trash. SHOCKED! Of course he grew up with his mom doing every single thing for him so I suppose I should have been more understanding...but of course I wasn't.

Your husband is a star! I have no other words for him.
